Cold treats that I love

Summer is almost here. Nothing beats a nice cold treat to eat on a hot day! Here are my favorite.

- Frozen blueberries or strawberries - Being frozen holds in the vitamins and nutrients. Plus it's tasty and children love it. Blueberries and strawberries helps makes your mind sharp as well.

- Fudge pops - Fudge pops have only 100 calories. They are silky bit of chocolate.

- Slow churn ice cream - This ice cream is so creamy and delicious. Well worth the try.

- Ice cream sandwiches - Nothing can beat an ice cream sandwich especially made by Klondike.

Overweight in America

A recent study came out that 31.7 percent of children are obese and by 2030 42 percent of Americans will be obese.

What is going on with us? We need to pull together and start making healthier and smarter choices. You can loose up to ten pounds a year just by cutting 100 calories a day. Take a walk, swim, move in some way but don't let yourself get fat.

Being overweight is preventable. You choose what you eat and how active you are. Also, you choose the foods your children eat. Don't buy junk and they won't eat it. Buy fruit and vegetables. They might grumble but they will eat it.

Lower the sugar and increase your physical activity and watch your weight go down.

Father outraged over three year old invasive search

As they were trying to fly to Disney for a family vacation, a three year old boy got a pat down before flying. He broke his leg and was in a wheelchair. His father videoed the pat down and posted it on YouTube.

When in a wheelchair, the security really checks you out. Regular scans can't see everything in a chair. So they physically pat you down and take swabs of chairs. In this video, they swab his back and front. He is scared but they don't allow physical touch. His father comforts him verbally.

Being in a wheelchair and flying, I have had my share of pat downs. I don't like it but understand why they do it. You just never know who is flying or their intentions. As a parent, I wouldn't like having my three year old patted down without me comforting them. But it is better safe than sorry.

If something did happen and could've been prevented through pat down, people would be furious.

Simple ways to get happy

Being happy is a choice. Believe it or not, we have the ability to get happy. Yes, sometimes people make us unhappy due to their moods or actions. Try to fight their grumpiness and get happy.

- Create clear goals in your life and try to achieve them. Understand that goals can change and your life goes in many directions. But to keep short term reasonable goals help make you feel accomplished. I try to blog at least once a day.

- Drink a glass of water before that coffee in the morning. Water is more energizing and healthy.

- Sleep 7-8 hours a night. Fewer than 6 a night can age your brain by 7 years! Set yourself a bedtime routine and get daylight in your awake hours.

- Say good bye to toxic friends and relationships. They only hurt you and weigh you down. Be less available. You can try to work out the problems but if you can't, let it go.

- Get rid of a bad habit for a new one. Instead of yelling at your children, scoop them up and tickle them. Then sit down and discuss why you are upset. Take a run instead of a cigarette or alcohol. Paint your nails instead of biting them.

- Do something that makes you smile. Have a cookie, call a friend, hug your spouse.

- Take a few minutes of me time when you can. Play an online game, read a few pages of a book, stretch, pray, nap, watch tv etc.

Little home tasks to enjoy a cleaner home

Most of us enjoy a clean house to live in. Cleaning a house can be overwhelming. So take a fresh approach. I tend to focus on one room per day. I always try to keep the living room free of clutter. Here are some other suggestions.

Make your bed. It takes five minutes and makes the room feel more put together. I read a study somewhere that people get a more restful sleep in a made bed. I like to spray fabreeze spray on the bed or some other fabric spray.

Do the dishes as soon as possible. No need to let your kitchen get icky with dirty dishes. Put the dirty dishes right in the dishwasher or wash them.

Clean where people enter your house. Put away shoes, trash, clean up mail etc.

Freshen up furniture by folding blankets, keeping clutter off, straighten pillows and I also like to spray fabric spray.

Wipe down the bathroom sink and mirror. No one likes to see toothpaste in the sink or mirror. Use scrubbing bubbles automatic toilet cleaner. Its simple, and a great way to keep the bathroom fresh.

Rush Limbaugh apologized for comments about law student

Rush Limbaugh apologized for his word choice by calling a law student, "a slut" and "a prostitute" on his radio broadcast. His radio show is the top radio show in America. Many advertisers have pulled out.

I didn't listen to the show but I read it. He was talking about taxpayers being forced to pay for birth control. In other words, forced to pay for sex in a way. He was saying that taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for those having sex. His words obviously got out of control. He said it was in humor.

I found it surprising that he would go that far. He must have realized that people would be all over it. Conservatives, especially, need to be careful because liberal media enjoys twisting things.

David Letterman has said some terrible things about Sarah Palin and her daughter. But many didn't even care or say a word. Letterman did apologize but it wasn't such a public fiasco.

I do not think abortions should be a health right. Abortion kills life. Birth control is a fine line because some women use it for other things or trying not to abort.

It should be interesting what the fall out will be.

Toddler dies that was found in field

Little Angel Babcock died on Sunday from severe head and neck trauma. Her extended family decided to take her off life support. Her grandfather issued a statement that she was reunited with her parents.

The Babcock's were a family of five with three children under the age of 2. Their neighbor invited them into his mobile home because it's bigger. They all held hands in the hallway. After the storm, four of the family members died and Angel was found in a field in critical condition.

People had hope for her survival, but on Sunday afternoon she became an angel in Heaven. It's hard to even imagine how her family feels losing all five members. It must give some piece that all five are together but the grief must be horrible.

As for the neighbor, he survived but badly injured with broken bones, broken shoulder blade and more. He was found wandering around trying to help anyone and find the family. He was told on Saturday what happened.

Horrific storms kill at least 38 people

Today emergency crews are searching for anyone in need after the storms that hit today and yesterday. A violent episode of storms crashed into the Midwest and Southern states. The storms left some communities flattened. Power lines, shredded buildings and tossed cars are all over the place in many of the hit areas.

The storms hit Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. 38 people have been killed and many more injured. Houses are completely destroyed.

Reading and listening to the stories of the survivors make you realize how strong people can be. A baby in Indiana was found ten miles from their home alone in a field. The baby is in critical condition.

A woman was reading in her room and quickly ran to her basement after reading a warning on the TV. Seconds later, her house was gone but she survived.

Please if you ever hear a warning, take it seriously for tornadoes, hurricanes, thunderstorms etc. Weather is amazing stuff but can be dangerous.

Conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart died at 46

You might not recognize his name but he reported Weiner's pictures bare chested and in his underwear trying to get women online. Weiner was married and resigned a few weeks later.

I liked Andrew Breitbart's views on loving to uncover the truth and fighting for what he believed in. He was on CNN on Tuesday. He died of natural causes just after midnight. He was a father and a husband plus had many friendships.

This is a quote he had on his blog on Thursday night. -

"Three years ago, I was mostly a behind-the-scenes guy who linked to stuff on a very popular website. I always wondered what it would be like to enter the public realm to fight for what I believe in. I've lost friends, perhaps dozens. But I've gained hundreds, thousands -- who knows? -- of allies. At the end of the day, I can look at myself in the mirror, and I sleep very well at night."

Autistic boy gets abused and family catches it on tape

In Allen Texas, a family suspected their son with autism was being abused. It started with a broken jaw and then random marks. They documented all of this but then put a hidden camera into his room.

They saw the boy get hit with a toy gun that his parents purchased for him for his birthday. The workers punched him and broke bones.

The excuse for doing this? Because he was a playful boy without discipline. Trial is set for May 14. The parents feel awful that they didn't do the hidden camera sooner.

Too much abuse goes on in group homes. Having a disability, I always feared of going in a facility and having people do whatever they see fit. When people feel power over someone like that, the world is a scarier place.

Gas prices rise - Obama verses the Republican Party

If you have gotten gas this week, you obviously notice an increase in gas prices. The price is getting scary because it seems to be rising everyday. Why is this happening?

During President Obama's radio address today, he implied that the gas problem is going to take a long time to fix. He wants to explore solar, wind, oil, gas, nuclear and other alternatives. He suggested that the Republican plan to drill more oil will not help in the long run.

In the Republican radio address, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Tex., reminds us that gas was only $3.17 a year ago.

She said the problem is that President Obama is slowing everything down by his permits and regulations that our gas prices are rising. The administration also opposes the Keystone oil pipeline XL from Canada to Texas. By opposing this, thousands of jobs won't be created and gas prices will continue to rise.

Mick Jagger played at the White House

On Tuesday, Mick Jagger did a blues tribute concert at the White House. He performed for President Obama and his wife. According to USA Today, the room was energized and all had fun. Jagger handed the microphone over to the president at the end.

I found it interesting that Mick Jagger admitted he is only nervous when he isn't prepared. The article said that to him a stage is just a stage no matter who he performs for. Jagger is 68 years old and is still full of energy and musical talent.

I'm jealous because I'm a huge Mick Jagger fan and was even  in the Washington DC area on Tuesday!

Tv news - buddy from cake boss and the apprentice

Did you watch the Celebrity Apprentice last night? I thought the guys were pretty goofy but they pulled it off for the first challenge. The women looked like they had it all together but the regular bickering comes in. Cheryl Tiggs was the first to be fired. Watch next Sunday at 9pm for another interesting funny show.

Buddy, from Cake Boss, gave Rachael Ray a spaghetti cake for her 1,000 episode. Rachael made an appearance last night on the Apprentice. She had to choose the best sandwich from the guys team or girls. She picked the guys.

Paul, from American Choppers, was the project manager from the guys team. They raised over $300,000 for make a wish foundation. He thought it would be half of a million but that is quite close.

Police buy burial plots to prevent burial next to their father

Police officers bought the burial plots next to the two boys who Josh Powell murdered. The police and others feel it's inappropriate for Josh to be buried next to the sons that he murdered. The mother of the sons went missing in December 2009. If she is found dead, she can be buried next to her sons.

I think it's outstanding that the police raised $5,000 to buy the plots. Even though he is their father, why does he have any right to be next to them? He murdered them after using a hatchet and then setting the house on fire killing all three of them.

Flags half mast for Whitney Houston

The New Jersey governor wants American flags to fly half mast for Whitney Houston. She was a great singer but also a drug addict. I don't think this is necessary. I rather do it for each American soldier that has died.

NC pre school lunch taken away for chicken nuggets

As a parent, I find this story upsetting. A preschoolers lunch that their parents made was taken away for a chicken nugget lunch. Did the lunch have loads of sugar? No. It was a turkey and cheese sandwich, apple juice, a banana, and potato chips. It sounds like a lunch loads healthier than chicken nuggets and corn!

What gives the state any right to go through our children's lunches anyway? Parents pack it and it is often a piece of home to go to school. I have warm memories of my father packing lunch and leaving notes of love and encouragement.

The state needs to worry about the processed chicken nugget meal that they are feeding children and not a healthy turkey and cheese!

St. Valentine's Day

St. Valentine's Day is February 14. It's in remembrance of St. Valentine. There re several stories about St. Valentine, and it's difficult to say which is true. One thing we do know is that St. Valentine believed in love.

One story is that St. Valentine was a Catholic priest who believed in love and marriage. An emperor thought men were more productive in battle so he outlawed marriage. St. Valentine married people secretly anyway. He was thrown in jail where he would send 'love' letters to his followers. He was then put to death.

Some reject the idea of Valentine's Day because they think it's a made up holiday from the greeting card company. However, I think it's nice to have a day where everyone says that they love each other.

Yes, we should show we care and love each other daily. But unfortunately not everyone is that romantic so having a special day is a reminder to tell the one you love, "I love you!"

Phantom Menance in 3D

Today the Phantom Menance opens in 3D. The Phantom Menance is the beginning story of Star Wars and first opened on May 19, 1999.

For many fans, Phantom Menance was a huge disappointment. However, to a younger generation, it was wonderful with Darth Maul and young 9 year old, Anakin Skywalker (later Darth Vader.)

So far, the 3D film has been greeted with a moderate reception.

Police captured suspect at Logan Court

Police reportedly captured an armed suspect at the Logan Court Apts. in Pottstown after hours-long standoff.

Westboro church to protest Powell's childrens funeral

Westboro Church tweeted that they are going to protest the funeral for the Powell boys because they believe that they were murdered because they are anti-homosexual rights. They believe that the legislation Washington State will approve about same sex marriage reflects on Josh Powell murdering his boys and killing himself.

Westboro Church is a small church located in Kansas and is very anti-homsexual. They protest soldier funerals and other media surrounded funerals to draw attention to the cause.

I'm all for having beliefs and opinions, but never would dream of protesting a funeral. These boys aren't even old enough to know about homosexuality. Their family is grieving enough. Let them be.

Update on stand off in Pottstown

Police are still at Logan Court apartments. They apparently through a gernade and now using tear gas to get the suspect out. Students from Pottstown school districts were detained until parents could pick them up who lives near that area.

Gun shots were heard at Logan Court apartments early this morning. No one is in custody yet.

Gas prices are rising

In the last 24 out of 25 days, gas prices have increased. They keep getting higher and higher all over the United States. Drivers are very unhappy and nervous about going in debt because they need gas to get to jobs and schools.

Rising gas prices always makes me nervous. Owning an accessible van requires a lot of gas and a hefty prices. Hopefully, they will come down soon.

'House M.D." has been canceled after season 8

With great sadness to many of us, the television show House won't come back after season 8. Hugh Laurie has played the witty and talented Dr. House on FOX since 2004. Ratings, unfortunately, fell since then and especially after Dr. House's love interest left last season.

The final episode will be in May.

LA Investigators discover 200 bondage pictures of students

Parents need to be aware and close to their children. Teachers at a LA school were abusing children for years!

Miramonte teacher, Mark Berndt, supposedly took over 200 pictures of children in bondage. He also blind folded the students and fed them his semen plus would put cockroahes over children's faces. He also fed cookies with his semen in it to the kids.  This happened between 2008. His colleague is suspected for fondling a female student and another is accused of writing students love letters.

Communicate with your children that they can always talk to you. Parents might not be able to prevent all abuse but can be aware of signals and believe your kids.

Texas enforces sonogram law

Yesterday Texas state enforced a law that provides a woman who is seeking an abortion to see a sonogram before the procedure. The woman will also need to be told the fetal development stage and hear the heartbeat. This law was easily passed in Texas.

To me, this is such a smart move and common sense. It gives women the power to be fully aware of what the unborn looks like and developed into. So many people do not know or understand what an unborn baby looks like.

An unborn baby has a body, heartbeat, brain waves and a growing body. They aren't just a clump of meaningless cells.

Well done Texas!

Obama's grandmother was in a car accident

Obama's grandmother, Sarah, was in a car accident on Monday. She is 91 years old and driving in Kenya. She walked away with minor injuries.

Josh Powell

The news came out today that Josh Powell from Washington State used a hatchet first before setting the house on fire. According to CNN about Josh Powell,he used a hatchet on the neck of his sons. This didn't kill them. Then he set the house on fire killing all three of them.

Why? Children are abused and murdered so often by parents. He claimed in a message that he couldn't live without his children.I'm only guessing that he used a hatchet to kill them first but it didn't work. There are other reports that he was discovering that they remembered what happened the night their mother disappeared.

Can we learn anything from this?

1. Love your children.
2 Look out for your children.
3. Before marrying or having children, examine who the partner is.
4. Listen to your gut instincts.
5. If you're angry, do not take it out on children.

5 ways to mend a broken heart

Mend a broken heart month is this February. Broken hearts are the hardest to mend because pain can be so deep. Every time a heart gets broken, a piece of the person changes and gets stronger. So, how do you mend a broken heart?

Unfortunately, there isn't any tried and true way. It's all on the person who was affected.  However, here are some tips that can help you.

1. Cry - The more you hold it back, the more you slow down recovery. Crying will help you release stress and help mourn over the past relationship. Put on sad music and let it out.

2. Talk about it - When ready talk to your friends or whoever you feel comfortable talking to. Talking helps sort it out and feel better.

3. Keeping positive thoughts - Repeat positive things in your head and heart. You are as strong as you work on for yourself. No one will do it for you.

4. Exercise - Exercising helps your mood and feel better about yourself. Not to mention that your body will last longer and be stronger.

5. Music - Listening to music, especially upbeat, can lift your spirits. Get up, shower, pump the music and allow yourself to reform.

You can do this.  Yes, it will hurt and seem forever. Yes, you might be watching QVC during sleepless night. But you will recover and come back even more beautiful or handsome than before. You got this!

Madonna in the half time show

Football has never been my thing, but I enjoyed Madonna's half time show during the Super Bowl. Even though I felt that it was a bit self serving in the beginning, I thought she did a great performance. Now the trouble is brewing over the British rapper showing the middle finger during the performance.

What can network television do to keep live television family friendly? Various organizations are blaming hiring of Madonna. They claim what do you expect when you hire Madonna? I thought Madonna did well keeping it family friendly as much as Madonna standards could. She was reasonably dressed with no real sexual gestures. My five year old was impressed by the colorful lights on the steps.

One solution is mainly for parents. They can DVR shows that they feel is more children oriented. They can fast forward commercials and make sure their children only watch child friendly shows. You can DVR live shows and fast forward vulgar parts.

It is ashame that it has come to this that we can't trust anyone to act appropriately. It ruins entertainment and makes it a bit darker.
